There are times when we neglect to clean certain places of our house because we don’t have the time and energy anymore.

When we neglect to do our cleaning duties, pests take advantage and would try to infest our homes. This is one of the worst cases that could happen to our house because pests bring in germs, viruses, and damages to our properties. As the old saying goes, it is better to prevent than to cure, here are the simple to-do tips that would prevent pest infestation in your home.

 Pest Infestation

Watch the Tree and Mulch

Trees are an excellent food source for insects and pests, that is why it is vulnerable to infestation. This problem though can stay just in the yard, and we wish that it would not go inside our homes. Trees, however, grow long and lanky branches that can touch our homes and act as a bridge for the pests. Trim these branches before the pests migrate into your home. Mulches can also be a problem because pests view it as attractive shelters; instead of using them, you are better off using rocks and stones to cover ground.

Repair Doors and Windows

Sometimes, pests begin to infest our homes not because it is dirty, but because these pests broke in inside and made it its new shelter. One way to prevent this from happening is to repair broken, warped, or damaged doors and windows. These small gaps in doors and windows serve as an entryway for these pests, so better shut it down by repairing it. If you don’t know how to repair, temporarily close of these little entryways by wire meshes that can be purchased at your local hardware store.

Cover Holes and Gaps

Holes and Gaps are not only found in your doors and windows but to other places of your house as well. These holes and gaps can be found in the missing shingles of your roof, gaps that are used for utility lines, and cracks on your walls or foundation. You can cover these holes and gaps by sheets of metal and also copper mesh. It is not a good idea to cover cracks with caulk because pests can eat through them.

Trash and Garbage

Another attractive place for pests is your trash cans and garbage. While we can’t avoid producing garbage always, we can manage it to prevent it from making very ideal for pests. Avoid on throwing garbage with much water in them, and then throw these trash cans and garbage on the dump as soon as possible, so that the garbagemen can collect them.
